5 Benefits of Yoga for Kids

by Rachel Wells

Yoga isn’t just for adults! In fact, yoga can help children become more aware of their physical, mental, and emotional selves; all while positively impacting their well-being.

Yoga is a perfect addition to classrooms because of its ability to help kids calm down, learn to self-regulate, and improve mental health – and it’s one of our favorite Apollo club themes!

Check out 5 ways yoga class can positively impact children’s well- being:

Builds Self Esteem

Yoga teaches kids to persevere and work towards their goals, and when they master a new pose, it can help build confidence in other areas of their life as well.

Improved Strength and Flexibility

Yoga teaches kids to use their muscles in different ways, challenging different muscle groups in a fun way. Learning new poses can also help children become more aware of their body and how it functions, while bringing a positive attitude towards health.

Improved Focus, Concentration, and School Performance

Yoga encourages children to clear their mind and focus on movements, breathing, and the task at hand. This increase in ability to concentrate connects to other areas of life, including academics. Yoga’s ability to reduce anxiety, lower stress, and boost problem solving abilities all play a role in positivity impacting academic performance as well.

Social Interactions

Working together to learn something new in a safe environment is a great way to build friendship and deeper connections to peers.

Managing Anxiety and Stress

The breathing exercises and relaxation techniques learned in yoga can help children with stress management – an important life skill that will help them well into adulthood (leading to better long-term mental and physical health.)
