This experiment is really easy to do, and super exciting to watch. The carbon dioxide gas created when mixing the ingredients allows the balloon to inflate in a super impressive way – and with the Halloween twist we added it’s perfect for October.
Be sure to have multiple balloons ready because your kids will be begging to do this experiment over and over again!
Supplies:
- Plastic bottles
- Baking soda
- Vinegar
- Sharpie
- Orange or white balloons (orange if you plan to make a pumpkin, white if you plan to make a ghost)
Step-by-Step:
- Pour a little bit of white vinegar into the plastic bottle.
- Use a sharpie to draw a face on the balloon.
- Use a funnel or spoon to add a scoop of baking soda into a deflated balloon.
- Stretch the neck of the balloon over the top of the bottle – being careful not to get any powder into the vinegar.
- When you’re ready, flip the balloon over so the baking soda falls into the bottle and watch the reaction occur!
