Our Employee of the Month is Michelle Correa!
Michelle has amazing ideas, works hard, and takes initiative. The school she’s at loves her, her students adore her, and she embodies everything in the Apollo culture. She makes wise decisions, is compassionate and was just promoted from Educator to Assistant Site Director. We are so grateful for all that she does for her students and the Apollo program.

- Who are you, where do you come from, where are you going?
My name is Michelle Correa, I am Mexican and American. I’m going towards pushing myself to be better and grow to the best of my abilities.
- How long have you been teaching with Apollo?
I’ve been teaching with Apollo for a month but I’ve been an instructor for 3 years
- What is the most valuable lesson you’ve learned since you started teaching?
Never skip the fundamentals of a process. Structure, Organization, Preparation, and Patience are key factors to reaching the goal.
- How do you motivate your students to succeed?
Remind them of past successes and ask them how they felt when completed. Explain to them what the reward would be whether it’s a sticker or the fact that they learned something that will help them later.
- If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
Teleportation and flying
- What is your most memorable memory from your time as an Apollo instructor?
Seeing how the kids light up when they see their teachers (including myself) and how excited they are excited to do the activities planned.
- If you could retire tomorrow and never have to worry about money again, what would you do with your time?
Travel around the world and I’d also make time to spend with my loved ones.
- What’s your go-to technique for dealing with ‘handful students’?
Catching their attention and try to show them that you’re there to help them.
- What is an unusual place you have been to?
I haven’t really been to an unusual place.
- Do you have a talent that not many people know about?
I’m very creative and I tend to naturally be good at any category that deals with any artsy skill for example: Makeup, Hairstyling, Painting, Crafting, Nail Art, etc.
- What’s your #1 teaching tip?
Allow yourself to ask for help, take a step back and take a deep breath. Then come back with your best patience skills.
- What’s your favorite classroom Attention Getter?
Waterfall… then the whole class goes “Shhhhhhhh” and goes quiet
- What is something interesting that you’re involved in, outside of Apollo After School?
As of right now I’m not involved in anything interesting.
- How do you spend your summer breaks?
Traveling, with family, playing sports, being active, exploring around the city, and resting.
- Star Wars, Star Trek, or they’re both lame?
Never seen either.
- What do you like most about working with Apollo?
The opportunity it gives to allow kids to be creative and learn at the same time.
