Did you know cup stacking (also known as sport stacking) is a recognized sport, with competitions and tournaments held all around the world? There are so many fun activities you can do with plastic cups, even if you don’t have plans to become a cup stacking pro.
Plastic cup activities are great because they’re inexpensive, keep kids (and adults) busy for hours, and are perfect for winter months when you’re spending more time indoors.
Check out 6 awesome plastic cup activities below.
Simple Cup Stacking
Cups can be stacked into pyramids of all shapes and sizes – made into walls, towers, or full building structures you can fit inside. When your done and ready to clean up, try recording your child jumping through the cup stack in a slow-motion video.
Bowling
Set up an in-home bowling alley using upside plastic cups as the pins. You can set your cups up in a traditional triangle style or in a stacked-up pyramid.
Table Rolling
Tape your cups to the edge of a table, then race ping pong balls along the top of the table (by blowing on them) with the goal of getting them to roll into the cups. Compete to see who can fill up their cup first.
Marshmallow Launchers
Grab a balloon, some scissors, and mini marshmallows for this quick and simple activity. All you need to do is cut the bottom off of the cup off with scissors. Then, tie a knot on the neck of the balloon and snip off the tip. Stetch the balloon over the top of the cop and secure it with a rubber band if needed. Place a marshmallow in the cup, pull the knot back, and release it to make the marshmallow fly out. Hold competitions to see whose cup can blast a marshmallow the furthest, highest, etc.
Cup Toss
You need at least 2 players for this one and a small lightweight ball. Begin by placing the ball in one person’s cup. Players will then play catch and toss the ball back and forth using only the cup – no hands!
Move It Up
For this activity you need at least 2 players. Each player will need a stack of cups with one of them being a different color than the others. Everyone starts with the different colored cup at the bottom of their stack, and races to get their cup to the top by taking the top cup off and moving it to the bottom one at a time!
