Easy Homemade Bubble Solution and Bubble Activities

by Rachel Wells

Blowing bubbles is such a fun and easy way to get kids playing outside – and for some reason they’re just as entertaining no matter how old you get!

You can head to the store and stock up on bubble solution, or you can create some science magic at home and make your own – you probably have everything you need laying around already.

Making Homemade Bubble Solution

Supplies Needed:

  • Large container
  • 5 cups of water (if you have hard water, distilled water works better than tap)
  • 2 cups of dish soap
  • ¾ cup corn syrup

Step-by-Step:

  1. Pour the corn syrup into the water and stir well.
  2. Add the dish soap and mix well again.
  3. Remember to mix the dish soap into the water slowly, doing your best to not let foam or bubbles form on the top.

Additional Tips

  • Letting your bubble solution sit overnight can make it easier to create big bubbles.

Fun Bubble Activities to Try

Looking for some fun ways to play with bubbles? Check these out:

Bubble Snakes

  1. Cut the bottom off of a plastic water bottle.
  2. Stretch out a sock and slide it over the open bottom of the water bottle. The sock should completely cover the bottom of the bottle but not cover the mouth opening.
  3. Dip the sock end of the bottle into a bowl of bubble solution and blow on the mouthpiece to make a long snake of bubbles.
  4. You can put a few drops of food coloring onto the sock before dipping it in the bubble solution to make rainbow colored bubble snakes.

Bubble Relay Race

Before you race, try stack as many bubbles as you can onto a spoon. Once everyone has a stack of bubbles ready, race from one side of your playing area to the other to see who can make it the fastest without losing all their bubbles from their spoon.

Bubble Painting

  1. Pour a small amount of bubble solution into each section of a muffin pan, or into multiple small bowls.
  2. Place a few drops of food coloring into each of the bowls of bubble solution and mix well.
  3. Grab a piece of white cardstock, dip a bubble wand into one of the colors of bubble solution and blow colored bubbles onto the paper. The bubbles will pop and create beautiful designs on the paper. Allow time to let it dry and hang up your beautiful creation.

Hold a Contest

Have a contest to see who can blow the biggest bubble, the longest bubble, or collect the biggest stack of bubbles.
