Her perfect attendance shows her dedication to her job, and it’s clear she genuinely cares about the children she works with – with a warm and engaging manner, making learning fun and memorable. Her lesson plans are always top-notch, and she continually seeks ways to improve her teaching skills. It’s inspiring to see someone so committed to both her own growth and the growth of her students

- Who are you, where do you come from, where are you going?
My name is Daisy Herrera I was born and raised in Chicago Illinois I am a proud Mexican American, and I am going towards being the best version of myself and doing everything possible to reach my goals.
- How long have you been teaching with Apollo?
I have been teaching with Apollo since September of 2024.
- What is the most valuable lesson you’ve learned since you started teaching?
The most valuable lessons I have learned since teaching with Apollo would probably be to stop and analyze every situation. Every little detail and moment can make a huge difference in reaching your goal.
- How do you motivate your students to succeed?
I like to remind my students of situations where they have succeeded even when they doubted themselves. I also like to make sure that they know that they are not alone and that I’m always going to be here to help them.
- If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
If I could have any super power it would be to have the ability to teleport anywhere I want. And I can have more time in my day.
- What is your most memorable memory from your time as an Apollo instructor?
My most memorable memory would probably have to be when I was helping out a student with an activity one-on-one and that student told me that when I helped them out one-on-one it was their favorite part of their day. That definitely made me feel happy.
- If you could retire tomorrow and never have to worry about money again, what would you do with your time?
I would definitely pursue ballet full time and enter into a company.
- What’s your go-to technique for dealing with ‘handful students’?
I think definitely patience and staying calm and collected is my go-to technique. And then asking questions so I can understand the situation.
- What is an unusual place you have been to?
I haven’t really been to any unusual place.
- Do you have a talent that not many people know about?
I have been doing ballet since I was 5 years old.
- What’s your #1 teaching tip?
My number one teaching tip would probably be to recognize when you need to take a step back. It’s important that we are at our best so we can be the best versions of ourselves towards our students.
- What’s your favorite classroom Attention Getter?
My favorite attention getter is to say “waterfall” to get class attention. The students really love that one as well.
- What is something interesting that you’re involved in, outside of Apollo After School?
Outside of Apollo I am involved in a batchata dance team and take ballet classes. And I am also currently enrolled in college.
- How do you spend your summer breaks?
I spend my summer breaks dancing and spending time with my friends and family.
- Star Wars, Star Trek, or they’re both lame?
I’ve never seen either.
- What do you like most about working with Apollo?
I love that I get the opportunity to give students a place where they can be themselves. As well as being able to give them an environment where the can learn and grow and know that questions are encouraged.
