Outstanding Instructor of the Month – November 2024

Our Employee of the Month is Asha King from New York!

 

Asha is incredibly hardworking, diligent, and responsible. Her consistent efforts reflect how deeply she cares about providing the best for our scholars. We are honored to have on our team and look forward to watching her grow in her role!

  1. Who are you, where do you come from, where are you going? 

My name is Asha King. I was born and raised in the Bronx. I look forward to continuing my career in education and being a role model to our students.

 

  1. How long have you been teaching with Apollo? 

I have been with Apollo since September, although I am still relatively new to the organization, I strive to the best I can while being here 

 

  1. What is the most valuable lesson you’ve learned since you started teaching? 

Being open-minded and helping those around me. I try my best to go above and beyond for my students and my program.

 

  1. How do you motivate your students to succeed? 

Having good communication and teaching them real world skills.

 

  1. If you could have any superpower, what would it be?

To be fast and try to help those that are less fortunate. I would try my best to use my ability to get all my tasks and responsibilities done.

 

  1. If you could retire tomorrow and never have to worry about money again, what would you do with your time?

Create my own program and use what I have learned over the years to make a community program and give back.

 

  1. What’s your go-to technique for dealing with ‘handful students’? 

Giving them their space and explaining why it’s important to take a break and reset.

 

  1. Do you have a talent that not many people know about? 

Being resourceful and empathic to others.

 

  1. What’s your #1 teaching tip? 

Having patience 

 

  1. What is something interesting that you’re involved in, outside of Apollo After School? 

Volunteer work

 

  1. How do you spend your summer breaks? 

Spending time with family 

 

  1. Star Wars, Star Trek, or they’re both lame? 

Definitely a big-time nerd, so both!

 

  1. What do you like most about working with Apollo? 

Having people support me and encourage me to do great things.
